Illustration & Animation Club for 7-11 year olds

Does your child love to tell stories? Are they always doodling new characters? This club will help them bring their ideas to life!
Throughout the course of each term, we will explore character design, story illustration, comic strips and stop motion animation. This club will move at the pace of the children, and they will build on their skills progressively over time in a playful and relaxed environment. Children will have the opportunity to work on a variety of individual and group projects, each one with story telling at its heart. This club is led by Emily, a children's illustrator who has a love of visual story telling and a background in primary education. FAQs This club covers illustration, comics and animation. How much time is spent on each skill? We will always begin with character design and story development. I find working from an illustration approach first helps children to really get to grips with their ideas, so we start out with illustration and comic strip making for the first 4 weeks. We then move onto stop motion. This is not a quick process! We work at the speed of the children, and it can take anything from 4-6 weeks to make a finished film. The final weeks of term, children get free choice to choose which approach they would like to use and will have access to equipment to make further animations, illustrated stories or comic strips. What equipment will you be using to create animations? We will use tablets mounted on tripods for the majority of of animation work. The children will also have access to digital pencils to add in drawn effects. When it comes to creating sets, we will use a wide range of art materials to create different effects. How will you share my child's finished films? Each time your child finishes working on a film, I will send it to you via email, or a file share platform, depending on the file size! When will this club be starting? This club is due to start in January 2026. It will run for 90 minutes and cost £13.50 per session, to be booked in termly blocks. We will likely be based at Church Crookham community centre and run from 5:30-7:00pm on a Thursday evening. I need a minimum of 8 children for this club to be viable.
